Canada

Canada is a country located in the northern part of the North American continent.  It is the second largest country in the world by total area and shares land borders with the United States of America in the northwest and south. 

The lands of Canada have been inhabited in for thousands of years by different aboriginal peoples and many parts are still inhabited by them.  Vikings settled and explored some of the eastern coasts of the country.  Expeditions by the British and French in the late 15th century led to colonization which has influenced the present day nation. 

Canada today is a federation of 10 provinces and three territories.  It is a parliamentary democracy and a constitutional monarchy with Queen Elizabeth II as head of state.  Canada is a multicultural and bilingual country with English and French as its official languages at the federal level.  It has a population of more than 31 million people from diverse races and cultures.  Its economy is diverse and it deeply relies on trade and natural resources. 

Canada has a large foreign and domestic tourist industry.  It is known for its magnificent landscapes and landmarks.  Most of the attractions in the country involve its natural gems and some include the sights found in cities.
